Additional Information

This 4 part series will explore how experiencing challenging times, including those of great loss, evokes many reactions in the adolescent child and how vital it is that we as the caring adults in the teen's life respond with calm, supportive guidance that is soothing and reassuring.  Our presenter will emphasize ways to keep the doors of communication open as our children cope with the many ups and downs experienced during adolescence.  Covering some essential understandings of this phase of child development, the series will allow participants to explore their concerns and consider strategies to respond helpfully to emerging behaviors.  Our facilitator will lead participants in reflective exercises to consider what parenting approaches they currently use and how those work well and, where there are snags, what can be done to shape their approach so it is more calm, mindful, responsive to stressful situations and effective in maintaining trust.  The peer environment will also be considered with ideas shared on how to approach another parent if something concerning arises.  Throughout the series the presenter will address common stresses experienced in our high-achieving, affluent community.
